Discover the usefulness of movement when processing emotional wounds and refining our ways of being in relation.
Movement is a powerful ally in the healing process. Like a mirror, ways of moving reflect the imprints of relational and traumatic wounds, showing what calls for care and healing. Like a tool, or musical instrument, we can use them to discover new options that serve us well.
The five developmental movements - yield, push, reach, grasp and pull - have been first described by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.
Beginning in infancy, they accompany us throughout our lives, evolving in variety and complexity. When given kind attention, and integrated with emotional and cognitive processes, they aid us in healing, and in fine-tuning adaptive ways of relating with ourselves and others.
Brigitta Karelis, M.A., LPC, was born in Germany where she completed a Diplom (M.A.) in Paedagogik in 1991. After working with political refugees in Germany, she moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1994 and completed an M.A. in Somatic Psychology at Naropa University in 1997, subsequently serving as adjunct faculty for 12 years.
She has maintained a private psychotherapy practice since 1997, and began teaching internationally for the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute in 1999. She has worked with many kinds of trauma, including the deep pain that can come from mis-recognition: standing strong in your goodness, truth, and dignity, when faced with bias and negative projections. Her work is informed by over 30 years of practicing and teaching meditation, Aikido, other movement studies, and her deep appreciation and respect for the power of the body-mind connection.

SP creator, Dr. Pat Ogden, established Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI) in 1981. Until 2019, SPI almost exclusively relied on word of mouth to spread awareness of training in SP. With growing demand for effective trauma therapy, we realized the principles and methods of SP needed to reach further. We began offering a variety of programs online, so more people than ever before can affordably and conveniently begin learning SP.
Free Registration includes admittance to the live event,
Upgrade for access to the replay recording, plus a PDF of slides that you can download to keep forever in your personal reference library. It also includes one CE certificate.
Upgrade for only $79 for 1-year access to the replay recording, plus a PDF of slides and a transcript that you can download to keep forever in your personal reference library. It also includes one CE certificate for those that qualify (more detail on CEs below).
