Discover how Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) can effectively treat shock and facilitate the completion of involuntary sensations, impulses, and movements in PTSD and C-PTSD by addressing the body’s unresolved trauma.
When clients are exposed to trauma, their bodies often register an immediate shock response to the threat. If this shock isn’t processed effectively, it can cause havoc with midbrain systems responsible for many unexplained trauma symptoms as well as brain systems involved with the formation of involuntary sensations, impulses, and movements, negative beliefs, and dysregulated emotions which are part of the traumatic memory.
However, many trauma treatment modalities that focus solely on addressing traumatic memory may overlook the crucial element of shock and related activation, hindering the healing process in the treatment of PTSD, attachment wounding, and other mental health issues.
Using one of SPs core techniques for the treatment of trauma, sensorimotor sequencing, clients can not only resolve shock and the complete involuntary sensations, impulses, and movements but also reconnect with their embodied sense of self, paving the way for the development of a healthier and more integrated self.
Through presentation and real in-session videos with Q&A, you’ll discover essential SP strategies that you can effectively apply in your practice.
Don't miss this opportunity to experience Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in action and help even your most challenging clients.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Tracy Jarvis, MSc, UKCP is a registered psychotherapist and has more than 20 years experience in the field of psychology and mental health. Tracy has an integrative background with a specialism in neuroscience and studies how Sensorimotor Psychotherapy intersects with other trauma modalities as well as the interface between science and trauma treatment.
More widely, Tracy is a Senior Consultant to the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences at University College London. She is the former Managing Director of PESI UK (previously Founder and Director of Psychotherapy Excellence), a not-for-profit organisation and the largest clinical content provider in the UK and Europe. In addition,
Tracy has a specialist private practice in PTSD and complex trauma. She teaches, advises, and consults on trauma for various organisations worldwide, emphasising the importance of a bio-directional treatment approach to treating trauma.
Trauma leaves its mark on the body. Yet, for many reasons, therapy has often ignored the body. SP can help clients use their own body’s wisdom. This can release trauma’s debilitating effects and develop somatic resources that help them engage more fully in their lives and relationships.
SP creator, Dr. Pat Ogden, established Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI) in 1981. Until 2019, SPI almost exclusively relied on word of mouth to spread awareness of training in SP. With a rising demand for trauma therapy, we knew SP’s methods must reach further. We started offering various programs online. Now, more people than ever before can affordably and conveniently learn SP.
