Susannah is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years experience working in mental health settings in Australia and the United States. Her practice has predominantly been in refugee and humanitarian not-for-profit sectors working therapeutically with individuals as well as facilitating professional development and reflective practice spaces for a range of practitioners. Susannah is also interested in collective healing and recovery from the impacts of organised violence and trauma-informed leadership and systems within organisations.
Initially trained in CBT, Susannah's practice has evolved with changing political contexts and she endeavours to hold the lived experience of clients at the centre of her practice, adopting a relational, anti-oppressive, feminist and human rights based stance which draws upon humanistic, existential, developmental, somatic and narrative theories and therapeutic approaches. Her work with people seeking asylum and from refugee backgrounds continues to teach her about systemic oppression, the legacy of colonisation, and her own privilege.
Susannah's counselling and supervision practice focuses on refugee mental health, humanitarian psychology, healing from trauma, supporting parents of LGBTIQA+ children and young people, and women's mental health.
Susannah loves nature and spends her spare time cycling, bushwalking, gardening, going to art galleries, reading, and with friends and family. She aspires to a more regular yoga and meditation practice.
