Our newest live webinar, scheduled for May 10, 2024, promises to be a unique and thought-provoking learning experience for both established practitioners and those new to somatic therapies and the modality of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
Titled Layers of Trauma, the webinar will be a real-time broadcast, including an immersive video of a Zoom therapy session, presented by SPI founder Pat Ogden, PhD, who will be joined by Ava Rose, LCSW. Ava is both an accomplished clinical social worker, Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, and a method actor. For the purposes of this educational webinar, she will portray the role of Ellen, a client with complex trauma.
Interested participants are invited to register their attendance today, either in person during the virtual event or to enable them to download the complete recording from any time zone at their convenience. We will be holding a live Q&A session after the webinar, welcoming questions, discussion, and thoughts.
The Learning Opportunities Presented by the Layers of Trauma Recorded Session Analysis
During the session, which will last for two hours, from 11.00 am until 1.00 pm (PCT), attendees will experience the way a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy practitioner might apply their knowledge, learning how to:
-
- Unpick the complexities of a client exposed to repeated trauma, including past and recent sexual abuse alongside intergenerational trauma.
- Recognize how trauma can present as enduring response patterns that can have a profound impact on the way the client interacts with others, reacts to triggers, or manages emotional response patterns.
- Utilize movement to reorganize internal experiences, identify response behaviors, and change long-standing habits that are negatively affecting the client’s well-being.
This specific recorded session will showcase some of the ways practitioners can use Sensorimotor Sequencing, a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy technique, to resolve traumatic arousal, which may present as a series or group of symptoms that vary widely, from disturbed sleep to extreme anxiety, onsets of aggression and fear, or high-risk immobility or impulsive behaviors. The session will also illustrate working with action to mitigate helplessness and immobility responses.
Virtual Participation in the Layers of Trauma Webinar
As an international educational organization, we appreciate that a proportion of our membership and the professional community engaged in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and somatic therapies is international. Attendees who cannot participate in real-time are equally welcome to participate and will be able to download the recorded webinar, including the full therapy session video, to access at a convenient time.
For reasons of transparency and to ensure each viewer gains the full learning experience, the simulated Zoom interaction is unedited, giving a complete idea of how mindfulness, Sensorimotor Sequencing and working with physical action might apply in a real-world therapeutic setting.
Webinar Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes for live and distance attendees include:
-
- Being able to analyze how body awareness helps to improve clinical outcomes for trauma clients.
- The knowledge to apply mindfulness interventions within client sessions.
- Having the skills to evaluate the effects and clinical implications of transgenerational trauma.
- The ability to identify somatic symptoms that are indicative of trauma.
The recorded therapy session and webinar are primarily designed for clinicians interested in trauma, including those currently using somatic therapies or those who have trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. We welcome psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, body workers, mental health professionals, and others working within the trauma space to attend. All participants can gain two continuing education (CE) credits.
We hope you are able to join us on this immersive, and exciting learning opportunity, with registration open now through our online booking page.
