Wisdom of the Body – On-Demand Learning

Format: On-Demand, Self-Paced
Length: 2.5 Hours
Access: Immediate 90-Day Access via SPI Learning Online (SPILO)
Presenter: Pat Ogden, PhD, Founder of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

The body carries experience in ways words do not always reach.

Even when clients have insight, patterns of tension, movement, posture, and nervous system activation may persist. These are not secondary to experience; they are central to it.

Through a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy perspective, this 2.5-hour on-demand learning introduces the foundational principles of working with the body in psychotherapy. Participants will explore how memory, trauma, and attachment are expressed somatically and how attending to present-moment embodied experience can support meaningful therapeutic change.

Across nine modules, participants will explore core elements of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, including implicit memory, the somatic narrative, trauma and attachment, embedded relational mindfulness, the organization of experience, and body-based resources that support regulation and agency.

Designed for clinicians who are interested in integrating the body more fully into their work, this course offers a practical introduction to the principles and practices that make Sensorimotor Psychotherapy a unique and coherent approach to trauma and attachment treatment.
