Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training introduces simple, body-oriented interventions that address the physiological aspects of trauma that are often overlooked in conventional therapies – which look only at emotional and cognitive symptoms. The Level 1 training educates participants on how to explore, track, and name somatic interventions with effective techniques to work with clients and manage the impacts of trauma.

Guided by trauma specialist and SP Lead Trainer Jennifer Gardner, MA, LICSW, CST, the program will cover a broad range of skills, knowledge, theory, discussion, live interactive group sessions, demonstrations, and quality learning, with feedback from our accredited and respected facilitators.
As with many Sensorimotor Psychotherapy trainings, we have combined self-guided learning for convenience and accessibility, live interactive group and small-group sessions, and touchpoints such as forums to augment understanding as the program progresses.
Throughout the training, practitioners will learn how to reach beyond talk therapies, using somatic interventions to address symptoms and outcomes of trauma and traumatic experiences, alongside assisting with trauma responses and longer-term outcomes such as depression, PTSD, attachment issues, and anxiety.
Attendees will learn techniques through an accessible, phase-oriented approach, examining the need to focus on stabilization before progressing to symptom reduction.
Hybrid Learning Methods for ETZ Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Students and Participants
Attendees studying an Level 1 foundational training with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute will be exposed to a wealth of information and study opportunities, including:
Live online orientation and closing, both lasting 2.5 hours and hosted by our training facilitators, with time to ask questions, meet and network with peers, and discuss the progression and learning stages throughout the training.
- Three online learning modules to work through at your own pace over seven to nine weeks, each lasting 20 hours.
- Two six-hour live, online interactive modules to enable full participation in discussions and dialogues about the materials and content covered.
Full training details and dates have been published to aid with scheduling and diary management. We advise all attendees to ensure they have the capacity to engage fully, particularly during live full-day modules, which form key aspects of the learning.
During a live session, participants can expect to join peers, colleagues, and facilitators online to review learning materials, participate in movement and visualization exercises, view live demonstrations, discuss skills analyses, and access case studies to showcase real-world applications of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
Experiential learning is vital to providing practitioners with real-world knowledge of how somatic interventions work in live client sessions. Attendees will experience exercises and the impacts of guided movement first-hand before applying these skills within their practices or professions.
Participants will be expected to conduct three hours of group of individual consultations with a Consultant or Trainer approved by the Institute to complete all aspects of the training successfully.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy goes beyond the limitations of traditional psychotherapy and spoken discussions by looking to the wisdom of the body and giving practitioners the knowledge and insights to uncover a path to personal healing.
Attendees don’t solely learn the theory of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy but engage in practical sessions, gaining an understanding of the techniques that can work directly with the body-oriented aspects of trauma and why many people experience trauma symptoms that are somatically driven.
Each participant who completes the training with come away with the following:

- An understanding of how to track, name, and safely explore disruptive or unregulated behavioral patterns.
- The skills to use their acquired proficiency to determine connections between physical actions and sensations and triggers or symptoms of trauma.

Accredited professionals can claim 39 hours of Continuing Education credits upon completion of the training, and all other attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Full in-person and live module attendance is required to be eligible for CE credits.
