My approach to counseling starts with a belief that healing happens within a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental relationship. I use present moment awareness and mindfulness to help clients recognize old patterns as they occur and guide them to make choices more aligned with their goals. In our work together, we focus on uncovering the underlying issues impacting present day life such as relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and identity development.
From a somatic (body-centered) perspective, I believe the body and the mind are intimately linked and I incorporate body awareness as a path towards greater self-awareness. When working with the body, I use trauma-informed approaches and I respect your past experiences, your body, and honor the pace at which you heal best. Rather than assuming that I’m the expert of your experience, I take an approach in which we work to uncover your body’s own inherent wisdom.
My work is also informed by a social justice oriented, feminist, and anti-oppression lens and I believe that the systems in which we are a part of impact all areas of our lives, inside and out. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex positive, and I recognize the complexities of sexuality and identity. I am also body/size inclusive and believe in Health at Every Size (HAES).
