SP is the foundation of my clinical work, supported by EMDR, ART, and TRIP. My practice focuses on anxiety, trauma, and the emotional complexity of caregiving—particularly for those supporting someone living with dementia. My name is Penny Waller Ulmer, and I am a Registered Psychologist, Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, and SPI Approved Consultant. I am white and cis-gendered, and I share my life and home with my husband and my daughter in Edmonton, Alberta (Treaty 6 territory), Canada.

My heart for SP work began as a client, then as a student with SPI in 2013, earning Certification in 2020 and approval as an SP Consultant in 2023. I am also trained in EMDR, ART, and TRIP interventions; however, SP is my primary modality.

I have a professional history in public health, and I work in private practice with Anxiety, Trauma, Developmental trauma, and Current Issues / Life Challenges, including the complicated experience of Caregiving for a person living with dementia. One of my primary populations is Reproductive Mental Health, including antenatal and postpartum anxiety and mood disruptions, pregnancy and early infant loss, pregnancy after loss, fertility loss, and traumatic birth experiences.

As an SPI Approved Consultant, I am interested in engaging a Consultee in using their body as the primary instrument of SP and in exploring their personhood as a therapist using the principles of SP while encouraging creativity and precision throughout the stages of the process.

As a Psychologist working with an SP lens and process, my practice is collaborative with the client and aimed at unearthing the history that shapes the present. We explore mindfulness and presence; develop empowerment and choice; process wounds and traumas; and, cultivate a novel and enduring curiousity for the client experience in relationship with self and others.
