Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Complex Trauma: Fostering Embodied Safety
Presenters: Marko Punkanen, PhD, & Lisa Stokkeland, Psych.
Date: Thursday, August 20, 2026
Time: 11:00–12:30 PM Central Time (find your timezone)
This live learning session explores how Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) supports clinicians in working with these embodied experiences by cultivating somatic safety and mapping dissociative parts.
Participants will learn how to identify and track the physical correlates of parts, recognize characteristic patterns of arousal, and support communication between parts through posture, movement, and mindful awareness. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and experiential learning, this session will explore how clinicians can foster greater safety, connection, and cooperation within the body.
This offering may be particularly relevant to therapists, counselors, psychologists, social workers, and other helping professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of embodied approaches to treating complex trauma.
