Laura Kangelaris

Hi, I'm Laura and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) that works virtually with adult individuals and couples. I enjoy helping my clients connect more authentically within themselves and/or their partners by using my attachment-based manner and approach. Using primarily Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy techniques, I help my clients stop dysfunctional relational patterns and heal the trauma that is triggered within them.

Our mind and bodies tend to adapt and repeat protective relational patterns that at one point in our lives worked for us, but unfortunately these patterns don't always continue to work. Whether it is feeling fight or flight anxiety levels around a certain situation or going numb when your partner begins to talk to you, I find that most wish to stop or change these patterns. By focusing on the body, slowing it down and noticing, we can tend directly to the source of our trauma and help it move through the body instead of staying stuck in a pattern or process that does not work for us. The pace at which I work is set by my client and I go at a speed that feels right to them, while still honoring their goals. I honor client's background, culture, identity and past experiences and I do my best to ensure they feel safe, heard and seen in our work together.

I am a graduate of Virginia Tech's MFT program and I live in the Richmond, VA as a wife and mother of two
